WBTV (02/26/26) states that a recent EPA report confirmed PFAS “forever chemicals” in Concord and Harrisburg water supplies at levels exceeding federal limits. If you’re a homeowner in Cabarrus County or the greater Charlotte area, your water may be affected — and a whole-home filter or pitcher won’t necessarily address it.

What is PFAS? Or ‘Forever chemicals’?

PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are man-made chemicals that don’t break down in the environment or in the body. They’ve been detected in public water systems across North Carolina, including Cabarrus County.

Health agencies continue to study their long-term effects, and the EPA has set new maximum contaminant limits specifically because of those concerns.

Culligan’s water filtration service is good overall, but I’m giving it 4 out of 5 stars due to some unexpected charges. Even for the annual maintenance visit, they charge around $130, which I didn’t anticipate. Additionally, if the app doesn’t work on your phone, they charge between $100–$200 just to come out and set it up.My concern is that the app and system are part of their service, so customers shouldn’t have to pay extra when something on their end isn’t working properly. Because of these additional costs, my experience hasn’t been completely satisfying.
